FYI, my wife collects traditional style knives. And she is sexy for it. It’s probably one of the few times in history where a man can appreciate his wife sharpening a blade in front of him. And dang, does she look good doing it. So Oppo, what are you carrying today?

For me, as always, a Case Russlock. It’s a good size, and fits discreetly in my pocket.

Kinja'd!!!

Update: MrsZtp just sent me a pic of her favorite knives. I really like the blue Case on the left.

I don’t carry a knife, because I cannot really legally do it and I’ve been busted for it and left off with a warning and I’ll get charged if I do it again.

but I keep a classic stanley box cutter in my toolbox.

As a school teacher I can’t carry, but there is a multi tool in the toolbox in my classroom if that kind of counts.

My wife’s rule, I’m not allowed to leave the house without a knife. If I do, she’ll grill me for it, lol. She knows the laws around here for carrying so that helps.

Also, if I carry one, it improves my sexiness (in her eyes) by at least +10 points, lol.

That's so cool. I switch it up a lot, but I’m currently carrying a kershaw leek. I’ve had it a while though, going to give spyderco or benchmade a try next. I never carried a knife before a few years ago. Now I use it almost every day.

In Australia there’s like a “you can carry it if you need one for work” rule, and it’s hardly enforced but in some areas the cops are a bit shit.

So like, if you’re walking through a mall at lunch time then it’s reasonable you’d still have it with you. But if you’re at the pub or it’s late at night and you do a 9-5 then not so much.

The cops that pulled me up said that I should keep all knives in my toolbox so there’s no confusion, which I can’t fault them for interpretation of the law.. it’s just a but silly I can’t keep a 1" long knife in my pocket for opening things because someone might think I’ll stab someone with it.

Spyderco Manix 2, best knife I’ve ever owned. I once lost it for like a year, so I did the only thing I could: bought a Manix XL to replace it, knowing full well that my Manix would turn up shortly thereafter. Worked like a charm, which was good because the XL was too big for me.

Spyderco is my favorite. Had a Manix 2 for years now, it’s basically the perfect knife. Plus I like that the blade says “Spyderco, Golden, CO, USA, Earth” so if I ever get abducted by aliens, they’ll know where they’re getting stabbed from.

I’m not allowed to leave the house without a knife, wife’s rule, lol. My own collection consists of 6 or 7 knives really. I usually take the Russlock to work, and the weekends I carry a Buck Vantage.

I also have a Benchmade 32 mini morpho, which I did carry until I lost it once. The person who found it gave me a hassle because I left it where her kids played (it wasn’t my intent?). Then my wife gave me a hassle because the 32 mini morpho is a +$200 knife. So I stopped carrying it so often, :/. Rule of thumb, only carry knives you aren't afraid of losing.

She is amazing, lol. She knows knives, guitars, and dogs, lol.

My wife bought me a butterfly knife, which aren’t illegal in this state. Unfortunately, you can only carry a knife that isn’t longer than 3". So the butterfly knife is shorter than its usual size. That's all fine and dandy, but I enjoy flipping it, and it is balanced, but the weight is off ( it's much lighter that my practice one). I can buy a longer blade one, but I couldn't leave the house with it.

They make a nice knife. Really thin...when I first lost it I bought a SOG, but it was like 60% thicker and really uncomfortable in my pocket. It had an assisted release, but I don't care about that, the Manix has a ball bearing lock that I can hold released and swing the blade open.

Over six years and a couple continents in my right front pocket. Not the best, or the fanciest, but at an auto shop I often find myself needing to open it it while one hand is already occupied, which the speedsafe design helps with immensely.

MrsZtp tells me to stay away from SOG and the new Gerber knives, the steel quality isn’t that good. I admittedly would of never have thought of the blade quality in a knife until I met her.

Current edc. Needs to be sharpened. I use it nearly everyday. I wish I could get my gf to carry a pocket knife but she can get in big trouble for having it on her or even in her car at work so it’s a lot of trouble.

True story: got a knife as a groomsman gift, carried it everyday, used that knife to cut off a collar of two dogs that got twisted. Saved 2 dogs lives with it. Now whenever I pick it up I announce “this is a life saving knife”.

Moral of the story is to always have a knife on you.

That’s why I went with my assisted opening volli as my current edc. I had a manual spyderco as my former edc, but there have been situations in the past where I’ve needed a knife open with one heavily gloved hand and couldn’t get the spyderco open. Thankfully, Maine has rather relaxed knife laws, so I can buy and carry just about anything I want, autos included.

I believe you’ve seen my favorite in use before:

Kinja'd!!!

(random google image, not mine)

This is pretty close to mine though. The best is the easy flip open with 2 options to flip it open(knobby guy on the blade, or pushing the back of the blade) and the half serrated. I’d never buy without a half serrated blade again after owning one.

I gave out knives to my groomsmen as well, lol. To the groomsmen, the dads, and I kept one for myself. It had a metal body, so I paid extra to get them all engraved with the person’s first initial, last name.

The story gets better because my grandpa was one of the groomsmen. He used his knife as a pry-bar, which is a huge no-no to my wife. She has mocked him ever since. Last Christmas she gave him a miniature pry bar as a gift, to rub salt into the wound. It's all in good sport though, still hilarious.

I find that I never really need a serrated blade. I usually cut towards the hilt, not the tip, so the serrated part just gets in the way for me.

Skeletool, every day. Nearly as thin as a regular pocket folder, but has several handy tools too. The bottle opener is used all the time, and the screw driver and pliers are clutch. Used to carry a Kershaw Scallion, which is the best EDC knife I’ve ever had. Razor sharp, holds an edge like a champ, super thin profile, and easy to one-hand open. The curved blade is so much better than a straight edge. And it was big enough for most serious jobs, but small enough to be easily handled. Hand feel is spot on, with thumb rest, fore finger guard and blade lock for pocket protection confidence. As a knife only, it was perfect. I found myself carrying the Skeletool more often because it’s handier, but I love the Kershaw more.

I’m a sucker for knives, fixed and folders. Even ones with crappy low-carbon stainless blades. (Lord knows I have too many.) As long as it’s sharp and has a nicely-designed handle, I’m sold. None of that spikes-and-skulls-everywhere junk, though.

Yep just like most US companies they’ve moved production to SE Asia over the years. They still have a line of US-made stuff for now at least. It’s all $100+ and probably worth it, but I think I only paid around $50 for mine back when it was all USA

Thanks! It’s a little difficult to sharpen as it’s s30v blade steel, but it holds a great edge for months at a time. I abuse the hell out of it (you can see the dirt from me digging around in my gardens yesterday) but I haven’t had an issue in the 18 months I’ve been edc-ing it. Highly recommended if you can carry an assisted opening knife in your area.

Urushiol is poorly soluble in water and only partially soluble in ethanol. You can more effectively clean it with a non-polar solvent like white gas, or some stronger (ionic) surfactants in commonly available degreasers. I rode my mountain bike through a patch recently and it took some work to eliminate the oil.
